Some businesses give to charity. Others invest in the ecosystem they operate in. Our sponsorship program was built for the second kind, and we named its tiers the way we think about the work: Seedling to Canopy, because that's how forests get built, and workforces too.

Minnesota Cannabis College trains people for cannabis careers, retail through cultivation through manufacturing, with a mission of education as repair: building industry pathways for the communities most affected by prohibition. Our first cohort alone enrolled nearly 50 students, and our free job board connects trained candidates with employers statewide.

Every part of that engine has costs that program grants don't fully cover. Sponsorship is how businesses fuel the engine, and unlike a one-time donation, a sponsorship is a year-round relationship with visibility, alignment, and a story your customers actually care about.

Our program runs across five levels, from Seedling at $250 to Canopy at $5,000 and above, with tiers in between sized for businesses at every stage. Seedling is the entry point, built deliberately small so that solo operators, startups, and neighborhood businesses can plant a flag in this work. Seedling sponsors join the sponsor community, receive recognition, and get to say something true and meaningful: we help fund cannabis workforce equity in Minnesota.

The middle tiers scale up recognition and engagement, greater visibility across our channels and events, deeper association with specific programs, and growing presence in front of our students, alumni, and community. These tiers tend to fit growing cannabis businesses and allied companies (law firms, accountants, insurers, suppliers) who serve the industry and want their name woven into its equitable foundation.

Canopy, at $5,000 and above, is the program's summit, our most engaged partnership level, with premier recognition across everything we do. Canopy sponsors also receive one benefit nobody else gets: sponsorship of the Northern Lights Podcast, our organizational storytelling platform, putting their name on the stories of Minnesota's cannabis community as they're told.

Why the tree names? Because a seedling and a canopy are the same organism at different moments, and because shade, in a forest, is something the tall provide for the growing. We think about our sponsors exactly that way.

Student feedback

Beyond tier-specific benefits, three returns show up at every level.

Alignment that's real. Cannabis consumers and Minnesota communities increasingly ask what businesses stand for. Sponsoring workforce equity isn't a values costume, it's a verifiable investment in the industry's most important promise. Sponsors get the badge assets to show it and the substance to back the badge.

Proximity to talent. Our students and alumni are the industry's incoming workforce. Sponsors are visible to them from training day one, a quiet, compounding recruiting advantage in a market where trained candidates are the scarce resource.
